John Anderson - BIG RED and Linescapes
The artwork I have created as an artist is influenced by my 45 year career as an architect. The tools and ideas that I use are the tools and ideas that I used to design buildings. For those 45 years I only did hand drafting and never used computer programs to draw. The same holds true for my artwork. As I was always making art during my architectural career, the slow transition to making art full time was natural and fulfilling.
“BIG RED” is one of four large drawings I call “The Quartet”.
It is a world of parabolas, ellipses and arc of circles. As there are no real continuous lines in nature,
the drawing is composed of pixels of various scales seen as if you were peering at the world through a micro scope.
